ICE-out Vermont Movement
Ice Out Now
Following our success with the Tesla protest, it's time to turn our energy toward a new challenge. Starting November 1 at noon, Burlington Rising will hold weekly one-hour protests at the intersection of 189 and Shelburne Road to demand the shutdown of ICE operations in Vermont. ICE has announced plans to do online surveillance out of 2 national facilities, one of them is in Williston! This is another dangerous step towards a police state. Stand with your fellow Vermonters to defend our values: a place where all people feel safe, welcomed, and free.
By organizing with local grassroots groups the protest has the potential to be broad rather than narrowly centralized.
It is important to share this movement widely on Social Media. Use the hashtag #iceoutvermont
This action is tied to the Trump-led Republican Party higher level goal of halting the movement to create an authoritarian dictatorship framed around Project 2025.
Why this is important
This is a Clear, symbol-rich target. The movement is targeting ICE, which is highly visible, very unpopular, and has clear links to the Trump Administration. This makes it easier to rally around. ICE is doing more than just targeting dangerous criminals who are in the country illegally. ¾ of those targeted have a misdemeanor or less. Many are legitimate U.S. citizens , ICE is a symbol of the broader political influence and the intertwining intertwining of corporate and state power to implement Project 2025.
Mass removal of immigrants will have a serious economic impact. The timing of the Ice-out protest is ideal as those impacts are just becoming visible.
Taps into broader dissatisfaction. The protest is not just about ICE; it ties into issues like government cut-backs, corporate power, democracy, white supremacy and misogyny.
A symbolic act that captures media. The very act of protesting ICE at a highly visible location gives the protests plenty of photo/video opportunities and media coverage. The visible, “on-the-ground” nature helps build momentum and visibility.
